Refettorio Ozharvest Sydney

Refreshing. Joyously creative. Exquisite. The staff are warm, friendly, considerate, and present. This is the best vegetarian I’ve had anywhere, and I’ve tried to everything from Buddhist temples in Hong Kong to Govinda’s and Mother Chu’s. The bonus is that it’s all for a good cause, paying it forward to disadvantaged people, being more sustainable and responsible… Parking is a mission (part and parcel with the Surry Hills area), but it is definitely worth it.

We were a group of 10 friends that enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Refettorio last Thursday. The food was very tasty and colorful, service so friendly and welcoming. We have all decided that we will make it a yearly event.

Many amazing words has already been written about OzHarvest. Their Refettorio restaurant in Surry Hills is in my opinion their best concept. We attended their “Pay It Forward” dinner and got to fill our stomachs and hopefully do some good. A very welcoming and friendly smile greeted us when we arrived. And this continued with our lovely volunteer servers - you can tell they all really enjoy giving their time at Refettorio. Our three course vegetarian meal with snack and non alcoholic drinks were all very delicious and made with love. You leave Refettorio with a smile and a genuine hope that the world can be a better place. Thank you OzHarvest!

A must for everyone. And a great cause. You feel so special, with the volunteers. It's full of life and a great spirit serving and meeting beautiful people over an amazing 3 course vegetarian meal. Its Wonderful. Highly recommend it. Thanks to all the staff for a fantastic cause.

Refettorio OzHarvest is the first charitable partnership company in Australia. It’s between OzHarvest & world-renowned chef Massimo Bottura where they’re using recycled ingredients with a zero-waste philosophy. The charity brings together those in need to a warm meal in a unique & welcoming setting. The food on offer is a free nutritious lunch prepared by OzHarvest chefs & served by amazing volunteers. You enter a long, narrow, nicely decorated room. It’s simply furnished with welcoming warm light, wooden furniture & appealing table setting. A sweet menu clearly describes the evening's meals & drinks. (No alkohol). The staff are volunteers & genuinely warm & friendly, really keen to make you relax & enjoy the food. The whole set up with the delicious food is outstanding. As a vegetarian, it was a pure pleasure to not have to worry about choosing something simple as its often the case when dining out. I highly recommend booking a pay it forward dinner here, but make sure to be out on time.

It’s a wonderful experience to hv lunch at this amazing & cosy restaurant. Their food is scrumptious and beautifully presented. The chefs are so creative and professional to create the weekly 3-course vegetarian set meal with the odd bunches of food. The volunteer staff are friendly with great gratitude and respect. Really appreciate their hospitality and concepts of running the restaurant which helps those vulnerable communities in need. I hv to salute them for their service and dedication! thank you for everyone who made this possible for the communities!

The world needs more places like this. A great initiative by a great charity, OzHarvest. The staff are mainly volunteers, very friendly, courteous and attentive. On the night, our meal was all vegetarian, yet still excellent in delivering flavour on a plate. We had a 4 course meal with non-alcoholic drinks. My friend and I were honestly blown away by how delicious the meals were, yet more than 90% of the ingredients used were rescued from the landfill. It's just amazing how much food is wasted and this place is an eye opener. Keep up the fantastic work. Try to get yourself a spot, if you can.

I haven't stopped talking about this place since my visit. You can tell the waiters and waitresses are volunteers choosing to be there of their own accord. The warm friendly staff were terrific and made us feel so relaxed. As it was our first time we weren't sure what to expect but, the standard of food in terms of presentation and taste exceeded our expectations. The whole ethos of paying forward food and being treated to a delicious dinner is fantastic on so many levels. This community iniative is phenomenal and I wish we had more of them around. As a vegetarian it was such a treat to not have to worry or request any special dietary requirements with the set menu. There was certainly no lacking of taste my carnivorous husband equally delighted in the food quality and commented how he'd be fully vegetarian if the standard of food was like this. Highly recommend booking a pay it forward dinner here. You won't be disappointed!
