Discover Mumbai Katta, an Indian restaurant at 227 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, NY 10573, United States, created around the nostalgic flavors of Mumbai’s energetic street-food culture. From colorful chaats and spicy snacks to tandoori specialties, curries, biryani, and Indo-Chinese dishes, this neighborhood destination offers considerably more variety than a typical takeout-focused Indian restaurant. Customers can contact Mumbai Katta at +1 516-953-3265.
The menu celebrates both Mumbai street food and regional Indian cooking. Diners can begin with Pani Puri, Vada Pav, or other chaat-style snacks before moving into vegetarian curries, chicken dishes, rice, breads, kebabs, and wok specialties. Current ordering prices place street-food dishes such as Vada Pav around $14, while mains commonly fall between $21 and $30. Butter Chicken is approximately $22, Chicken Kolhapuri about $24, and Chicken Biryani around $30. Dine-in, takeout, delivery, and catering make Mumbai Katta in Port Chester suitable for anything from a casual meal to a larger celebration.
For a first visit, the Vada Pav captures the restaurant’s identity especially well. This Mumbai classic combines a spiced potato fritter with soft pav, producing a satisfying contrast between fluffy bread, crisp coating, and bold seasoning. The Pani Puri offers an entirely different experience: delicate semolina shells filled with seasoned potato and accompanied by bright mint and tamarind flavors. For a heartier meal, Chicken Biryani delivers fragrant rice and richly seasoned chicken, and customer ratings on delivery platforms consistently place it among the restaurant’s better-received dishes.
Customer feedback is notably positive overall. Mumbai Katta currently carries approximately a 4.8-star rating from nearly 180 Google reviews. One customer called it the “best Mumbai style food in the US,” praising the authentic flavors and freshness, while another diner described the food and service as “superb.” Reviewers have also highlighted the biryani, goat dishes, large samosas, and welcoming service. A useful consideration, however, is value: at least one customer felt that some portions were small relative to the restaurant’s higher prices.
The dining room feels clean, colorful, and inviting, offering a comfortable environment without becoming overly formal. Its presentation supports the restaurant’s street-food concept while still working well for family dinners and small gatherings. Vegetarian diners receive particularly strong variety, and vegan selections further broaden the menu. Catering and private curated multi-course meals add another distinctive touch.
For diners comparing the best restaurants in Port Chester, Mumbai Katta stands out through specificity rather than sheer size. Its combination of Mumbai street food, regional specialties, vegetarian choices, and tandoori cooking creates one of the area’s more distinctive local dining experiences. Visit Mumbai Katta with friends, order several dishes to share, and explore the spicy, tangy, aromatic flavors that make Mumbai’s food culture so memorable.

Chef Anita and Mumbai Katta have outdone themselves again. Food and service is simply amazing. Their Malvani Crab curry (off menu, preorder) is absolutely outstanding and we get it for special occasions. The lamb chops were succulent and tender. Will be going back soon for Patrani fish and Goat Dhansak, a Parsi dish that I have not eaten in over 25 years.
Amazing experience, especially for a person from Mumbai. The food is just like back in Mumbai tastewise and the fact that Chef Anita personally takes care of you makes the experience even better. We got their Shrimp Fry, Chicken Hakka Noodles, Tandoori Pomfret and Puran Poli and each dish was a slam dunk. Love the accessibility as well, we took a train from Grand Central and were at the restaurant in an hour. Overall my new favorite restaurant for home like food in the tristate area
I loved each and every item that we had ordered. All the food was packed properly. Instructions were written on the cover for heating. Everything was thoroughly done.
I am so happy with my recent Catering Order which Anita and Jayant (the owners) themselves delivered with loving care and efficiency. The food arrived exactly on time, was presented beautifully and the quality was EXCELLENT! It looked fresh and appetizing and tasted DELICIOUS! The Arugula-Mango salad was both crunchy and juicy and everybody remarked how refreshing it tasted and how pretty and colorful it looked. The dressing was light and tangy and did not overpower the fresh greens or the generous portions of golden mango. The Batata-Vada was a big hit with its crispy exterior and tasty filling. Nothing was chili-hot because I had specifically asked for less heat, since this was a seniors' gathering. Somehow Indian restaurants find it hard to control the heat without losing the flavor. Anita did it masterfully! The Dahi Vada was another incredible success! The Vadas were soft and spongy, while retaining their shape and the Dahi was creamy, with the just the right balance of sugar and spice. The chutneys were fresh and zesty and Anita did a lovely job with the display of it. The mixed Chicken Kebabs - Sheekh Kebab and Malai Kebab - were soft, succulent and just the perfect size for easy-eating. As I mentioned above, the spice and heat levels were exactly what I had asked for. For once everybody was able to enjoy the taste of the Sheekh kebabs without that inevitable burn you feel in most other places. The Chef actually LISTENS to you at Mumbai Katta. The final item, the Kesar Shrikhand, was to die for! The yogurt was silky, not too tight , not too loose, with just the right amount of sweetness and the flavor of real saffron came through beautifully. The pistachio on top made the dish stand out and glitter and ask for praise! Oh, and the Gulab Jamuns were absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Anita and Jayant helped me with the setup and I was thrilled with the whole experience of ordering from Mumbai Katta. My guests loved the food so much they all asked for the contact information for the restaurant. I am attaching photos. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Of course I am going to order from here again and will visit the restaurant with friends and family whenever possible. Thank you, Mumbai Katta, for an unforgettable experience!
I just tried this place after reading all the great reviews. I must say it lives up to the hype. Every dish we ordered reminded us of Mumbai. The food tastes just like Mumbai street and restaurant food. The pricing is quite reasonable, the service is quick despite the restaurant being full and they make a point of checking on customers frequently which is a nice touch. We actually liked the food so much that we ordered more than we should have. But definitely coming back for both dine in and take out again! It’s worth your time and visit if you’re in the area and craving some Bombay food!
I came here for lunch with a friend and the food was really good! My friend got the Butter Chicken (pictured) and we ordered plain and garlic naan and mango lassi. There was an issue with my card (I guess beware if you're using or plan to use a Discover card) in their electronic payment system so I had to come back the next day to pay cash which I wasn't thrilled about but they were very nice and understanding about it, so I appreciated that.
We love going to this place regularly, the food is delicious, staff and service is great and the chef is passionate about her work and it shows! We recently tried their gudi padva special and the shrikhand was amazing!
